Life and Work

The presentation of the results of the magazine’s “Wprost” report of November 20, 2006 concerning the quality of life in the biggest cities of Poland.
 
 
What variables are the report’s results based on?
 
The total assessment (minimum 8 points, max. 120 points) consists of the component marks in the following fields:
 
 
Work and Earnings (max. 30 points) with the following criteria:
  • the average income of the inhabitants
  • the number of economic entities registered in the REGON system per 1000 inhabitants
  • the unemployment rate
Prices (max. 20 points) with the following criteria:
  • the grocery bill (including the average price of bread, 10 eggs, a kilo of ham, a kilo of cheese, and a kilo of tomatoes)
  • the services and other goods bill: the average cost of a flat renting (space of 1m2), the average price of balleyage at the hairdresser’s, dentist visits, taxi services (1 km), a public transport ticket, a cinema ticket, one-hour swimming pool ticket, the price of high-octane petrol 95 (1 litre), Internet cafe’s charges for 1 hour
Health (max. 15 points) with the following criterion:
  • the average life length of the inhabitants (the average of men’s and women’s life lengths)
Housing Standard (max. 10 points) with the following criteria:
  • usable floor space (m2) per capita
Infrastructure (max. 15 points) with the following criteria:
  • shopping floor space (m2) per 1000 inhabitants
  • number of the universities’ places per 1000 inhabitants
  • number of hospital beds per 10 000 inhabitants
  • percentage of the inhabitants served by sewage treatment plants
  • number of kilometres of streets and roads per 1000 inhabitants
Safety (max. 10 points) with the following criteria:
  • number of crimes per 100 000 inhabitants
  • crimes detection rate
Entertainment and Rest (max.10 points) ) with the following criteria:
  • number of places in cinemas per 1000 inhabitants
  • number of restaurants, cafes, canteens and catering outlets per 10 000 inhabitants
  • the area of parks, grass lawns and estate greenery
Tourist Attractiveness of the Region (max. 10 points) with the following criterion:
  • number of foreign tourists using the accommodation yearly per 1000 inhabitants of the region
